Meet Dr. Susan Payne
On Being a Dentist
I love being a dentist. After practicing for more than 18 years, I still find each day in the office to be rewarding. I feel blessed to take care of people, and work hard to make sure that every person who comes to the office receives the very best care available, from the moment they walk through our door. It’s essential that each patient knows how much we appreciate the trust they place in us, to care for their smile, and my team, Dr. King, and I strive to make sure we communicate that fact.
I genuinely enjoy building friendships with my patients and their families. Getting to know them on a personal level, and establishing long-term relationships based on communication and trust, is very rewarding. I learn a lot from each person and love the conversations we have. I treat each patient the way I would like to be treated by a doctor: compassionately, gently, and with respect for their unique situation.
Education and Commitment to Continuing Education
- Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry – Angelo State University
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery – Baylor College of Dentistry
- Advanced education in orthodontics from the American Orthodontic Society
I attend various continuing education courses throughout the year. This ensures I stay current with the latest technologies and dental treatments, in order to provide my patients with the best care and care options available. They rely on me to offer leading-edge treatment that delivers the strongest results, and it’s always my goal to do just that.
My professional memberships provide me access to the current literature and research, the leaders in oral healthcare, and to learn from the best. I also volunteer my services through events sponsored by these organizations, as that allows me to give back to my community and neighbors. I maintain active memberships in the:
- American Dental Association
- Texas Dental Association
- American Orthodontic Society
When I’m away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a wonderful husband and three children. The kids keep me very busy attending their various extracurricular events. We also like to go camping and skiing, and love playing sports together.
I was born and raised in West Texas and love being in Abilene. I never want to live anywhere else.
